WELLAND – The nation’s 150th anniversary is still two calendars in the distance, but the City of Welland isn’t dragging its feet in making preparations for it.
The city’s new 150th Anniversary Committee (Canada’s Confederation) had its first meeting Monday, Nov. 2.
The members of the committee are: Councillor Bonnie Fokkens, Helen Galeota, Teresa Haydon, Debi Katsmar, Maria Lallouet, Kay Annable, James Takeo, Amanda Deschenes, Bernice Booth, Stephanie Hicks, Steve Canjar, Margaret Skinner, Josie Faccini, John Huehnl-Cadwell, Don Romano, Cheryl Edwards, Sandra Phillipson-MacPhee.
The committee was advertised on the city’s website in the Civic Corner page. Over a period of a few weeks, volunteers were sought as members.
Its next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 16, 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at city hall. One of the items of business: election of two co-chairs.
The committee will co-ordinate and plan Welland’s events during Canada’s 150th anniversary celebration in 2017.
Coun. Fokkens is presently spokesperson for the committee.
The meetings will be open to the public.
