SOUP’S ON!: Prepare To Be Bowled Over

WELLAND – Chances are you’ll be bowled over by the menu for Soup’s On! 2016.

The popular soup luncheon is being held Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at St. Kevin’s parish hall.

Tickets are on sale weekdays 9 am to 5 pm from the parish office and, in the church foyer before and after weekend Masses. The Mass schedule is: Saturdays 5 pm, Sundays 8:30 am, 10 am, 11:30 am and 5 pm.

When Soup’s On! started in 2003, the ticket price was $10 per person.

Fourteen years later, the ticket price is the same: $10 per person.

Four soups were on the inaugural menu; nine soups are on the menu for Soup’s On! 2016.

A new soupmaker, Stephanie the Lunch Lady, joins long-time participants: Blessed Trinity High School, Confederation Secondary School, Eastdale Secondary Schoool, Lakeshore Catholic, Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute and Notre Dame College School.

Stephanie Menicanin, well known at the parish as its choir director, is the face behind the Lunch Lady name.

Soup’s On! is a fundraiser for the St. Kevin Food Bank Social Justice Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating Grade 12 students with interest in and commitment to social justice, and also with a record of solid academic achievement through four years of secondary school.

Soup’s On! has a noteworthy record of success: it is sold out year after year.

Tickets are available for 11 am, noon and 1 pm seatings.

Soup’s On! 2016 Soup Menu:

Blessed Trinity High School: Potato, cheddar, smoked ham

Canadian Food and Wine Institute (Niagara College): Turkey pot pie soup; AND, French Cassoulet

Confederation Secondary School: French-Canadian Pea Soup; AND, Beef, barley, roasted root vegetable

Eastdale Secondary School: Roasted tomato

Lakeshore Catholic High School: Roasted butternut squash

Notre Dame College School: Carrot with cream cheese, sage and bacon
