WELLAND – The Mayor’s 2016 Christmas Card Photo Contest is now accepting submissions.

Candlelight Christmas Service of Hope
WELLAND – A memorial service to celebrate and remember the lives of those we loved and cherished is once again being held this Christmas season with local clergy from various churches. All are welcome to attend on Wednesday, December 16 at 7pm at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, on Devon Street in Welland.
Donations aid Syrian refugee sponsorship
THOROLD – This Christmas, you may wish to consider making a donation in support of the Syrian refugees who are being sponsored by parishes across the Diocese of St. Catharines. Financial donations can be made to the Diocese of St. Catharines, noting ‘Refugee Settlement’. These donations will be distributed to parishes striving to meet the financial requirements to sponsor a family.
Income tax receipts will be issued.

City’s 15th annual Childrens New Year’s Eve Bash

MacNeil returns as chair of Catholic board
WELLAND – Niagara Catholic District School Board held its annual Organizational Meeting at the Catholic Education Centre December 1.
Father Paul MacNeil was re-elected Chair for 2016, and Kathy Burtnik was elected Vice-Chair.
Father MacNeil was elected to the Board in 2010, representing voters in Grimsby, Pelham, Lincoln and West Lincoln. This is his second term and his second time as Chair.
“Let me say how genuinely proud I am of the improvements we have made in working together as a Board,” said Father MacNeil. “Thank you all for helping us make this happen, and I continue to count on each of you to build on what we are creating together.”
Kathy Burtnik has previously served as Chair and Vice-Chair of Niagara Catholic. She is currently the President of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association.

Tickets available for soup fundraiser
WELLAND – Tickets are now being sold for the 14th annual Soup’s On!, a popular fundraiser held at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street.
The event is on Friday, January 29, 2016 with sittings at 11 am, noon and 1pm. Tickets are $10 per person and can be bought from the parish office Monday through Friday 9am. to 5pm.
