WELLLAND – Do you have your Soup’s On! tickets yet?
The 14th annual fundraiser is being held Friday, January 29, 2016. It isn’t sold out, but tickets are selling briskly and the next two weeks are traditionally peak sales periods.
Soup’s On! has an enviable record of success as a fundraiser and community event: It sells out year after year.
It’s a tri-partite partnership that translates into a win-win-win for the three parties – high school/college/small business soup prep teams, soup lovers, and the sponsoring committee. Here’s how.
Soup prep teams: They are given opportunity to showcase their talent and cooking skills, serving soup to a few hundred people at the event;
Soup lovers: They get a fantastic menu of soups, this year nine! The ticket price, $10 per person, is the same as when Soup’s On! started, on January 31, 2003.
Sponsoring committee: Funds raised go to the St. Kevin Food Bank social justice scholarship fund. Last June, three $1,000 scholarships were awarded – two to Notre Dame grads and one from E. L. Crossley.
Here’s the roster of soup prep teams for Soup’s On! 2016 and their respective soups:
Blessed Trinity High School: Potato, cheddar, smoked ham
Canadian Food and Wine Institute (Niagara College): Turkey pot pie soup; AND, French Cassoulet
Confederation Secondary School: French-Canadian Pea Soup; AND, Beef, barley, roasted root vegetable
Eastdale Secondary School: Roasted tomato
Lakeshore Catholic High School: Roasted butternut squash
Notre Dame College School: Carrot with cream cheese, sage and bacon
NEW TO SOUP’S ON!: Stephanie the Lunch Lady: Onion, ale and cheddar
Soup’s On! is held at St. Kevin parish hall. Tickets can be purchased from the parish office Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
