Irish Advance To Consolation Championship

ST. CATHARINES – Teams from two Niagara Catholic high schools will meet in the consolation championship of the 41st Ontario Catholic Classic senior boys basketball tournament.

Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish of Welland and St. Paul Patriots, Niagara Falls, will play at 6 p.m. at Denis Morris.

The Irish advanced to the consolation championship game with an easy 64-46 win over O’Gorman Catholic High School Knights from Timmins.

The Irish led 16-11 after the first quarter, 31-19 at the half and 53-37 after the third.

The pairing for tonight’s championship game was being played out this afternoon.

Top-seeded St. Michael’s College Blue Raiders, Toronto, were up against Bishop Reding Royals of Milton in one semi-final, with St. Jean de Brebeuf Braves of Hamilton meeting Cardinal Newman Cardinals also of Hamilton in the second.
