WELLAND – Stephen Bede Scharper, a theologian and an Associate Professor of Environment at the University of Toronto, will speak at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, Welland, on Thursday, March 10.
Scharper writes a regular column on the environment for the Toronto Star. He is especially focused on climate change, and he views Pope Francis and Catholic Social teaching as very effective resources in educating people regarding climate change.
In his presentation, he will highlight the power of Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’, as a direct challenge for people to learn more about climate change and become active in working to preserve the integrity of creation.
Professor Scharper is a dynamic speaker. He has the gift of making rather complicated environmental questions quite understandable. This Lenten evening with Professor Scharper will get underway at 7 p.m. in the parish hall.
