SPECIAL – The Canadian Federation of University Women Welland and District Unit are celebrating their 75th Anniversary this year. Begun in 1941 with 19 chartered members and Ethel Morrissey as the first president, the group has grown over the years to 65 members this year.
Always supportive of women attending university, they have grown from supporting one women pursuing post-secondary education each year to presently supporting a female graduate from each of our 8 local secondary schools who is enrolled in a post- secondary university or college. These scholarships are now possible through the annual, well supported, Book Sale held each fall.
To honour the 75th Anniversary, CFUW sponsored Barbara Reid a Canadian Children’s Author to speak at each of the three local libraries during March Break.
On Friday June 10th an exhibit depicting CFUW over the past 75 years will be unveiled at the Welland Museum. All are welcome to this opening Celebration from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Museum.
Following the opening, the exhibit will run at the museum over the summer months.
