SEMIFINALS TODAY IN TRIB HOOPS TOURNEY

WELLAND – The pairings have been determined in the semifinals of the annual Tribune Girls Basketball Tournament.

Today’s consolation semifinal action at Niagara College’s Athletic Centre has Governor Simcoe playing Saint Paul at 3:30pm and Lakeshore Catholic meeting  Sir Winston Churchill in a 5pm tipoff.

Semifinals on the A side of the bracket, also at the college, has Notre Dame facing Eden in the 6:30pm game, and Jean Vanier taking on Centennial in the nightcap getting underway at 8pm

WARD 3 COUNCILLORS WANT TO CHAT

WELLAND – Councillors John Chiocchio and John Mastroianni are holding an information meeting with Ward 3 residents October 19, 7pm to 9pm. It’s at Civic Square’s community room.

FOOD FOR FINES IS BACK

WELLAND – Make a food donation and have your fines forgiven!  From October 16th to the 30th, bring in a bag of non-perishable food items to Welland library and your fines will be forgiven.* All food collected throughout this time will be donated to Welland food banks. Food for Fines is a great way to help the community and be debt-free with the Library!

LIBRARY OPEN SUNDAYS

WELLAND – Beginning October 16, the Main Branch of the library will be open every Sunday from 1– 5pm. Staff look forward to seeing you!

Free parking available all day on weekends and evenings after 6 pm.

MANDOLIN ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT

WELLAND – Mandolin Orchestra of Niagara presents…Celebrating our Heritage  on Sunday, October 16, 2pm in the Theatre at the Welland Community Wellness Complex. Tickets: $12 passholder; $15 non-passholder.

HARVEST LUNCHEON AT WELLNESS COMPLEX

WELLAND – The Harvest Luncheon is being held Wednesday, October 26 at Welland Community Wellness Complex, 1130am to 12:30pm.

On the menu: cabbage roll with tomato sausage and perogies with onions and sour cream, dinner roll with butter, carrot cake, coffee/tea and applie cider. Price is $8 ($9 after Oct. 19) for passholders and $9 ($10 after Oct. 19) for non-passholders. Only 60 tickets are available.

PUBLIC SKATING STARTS

WELLAND – Public skating starts at the Jack Ballantyne Memorial Arena, Oct. 15. It’s from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY FOR  CULTURAL HALL

WELLAND – Croatian National Home is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 22. Doors open for an open house at 3:30pm and dinner will be held starting at 5:30pm, with short speeches from various guests and musical performances by three cultural groups, including the Veseli Hrvati of Welland.  More information and tickets, call Kathleen 905-735-5089 or Ann 905-734-9851.

TRIVIA NIGHT PLANNED BY LIBRARY

WELLAND – Think you know your stuff? Come on out and prove it in support of your library! Join us at the Croatian National Home on Friday, November 4 for the library’s second annual Trivia Night. Gather a few friends – or enter as a team of 8 – for a delicious pasta dinner and some friendly competition. Prizes for the top three tables.

Tickets are $25 and are now available at the library.

These talks are in conjunction with the development and construction of a Fallen Workers Memorial which will be unveiled in late summer 2017 and will be located adjacent to Lock 3 in St. Catharines. Each talk will take place at 7pm in the Community Room of Civic Square, located at 60 East Main Street in Welland.
