WELLAND –  The fall-through-spring Harvest Kitchen program has started up again in Welland.

It opened Nov. 1 at the Hope Centre site. Other sites are: Central United Church, Eglise du Sacre-Coeur, St. Kevin Church and Sts. Peter and Paul Church.

This long-operating lifeline for many had its start in the late 1990s as Out of the Cold. The big difference between Out of the Cold and Harvest Kitchen is that the former had an overnight component – guests who needed a place to stay the night could bed down at the participating sites.

Out of the Cold was started by Rev. Bob Bond after a series of preparatory meetings and training sessions.

Rev. Bond is still the guiding hand for Harvest Kitchen,  a remarkable tenure of service for this volunteer-based  initiative.
