RIVER KEEPERS HOLD AGM
WELAND – The Welland River Keepers are holding their annual meeting Tuesday, November 15, 7pm at Welland Civic Square Room 108.
New members are welcome. The group’s activities include planting trees, shrubs and wildflowers along the river, working with other groups of similar interest, nature walks and hikes, and more.
There will be a short presentation by Dr. Mike Dickman on the Humberstone Landfill Expansion Proposal at the annual meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend.
HEALTH, WELLNESS SESSION
WELLAND – A Niagara Region Health and Wellness Expo is being held Saturday, November 12 from 9am to 5pm at the Croatian National Home, 6 Broadway Ave, Welland. Free Admission.
HO, HO, HO – WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
WELLAND – Santa Claus comes to Welland Saturday, November 19.
That’s the date of the city’s Santa Claus parade. And here’s the big question: who at city hall has the connections to get him here so early? Ho, ho, ho!
Volunteers are needed to assist with the event: including traffic marshals, parade marshals, ride-along marshals, and end-of-parade marshals.

Santa Claus Parade details: 4pm start time at Canadian Tire Financial Services (East Main & Wellington Sts.) ending at Civic Square. After the parade, visit with Santa and enjoy free hot chocolate and treats – while watching a movie on Welland’s Big Screen!
WELLS OF HOPE
WELLAND – Ted van der Zalm of Wells of Hope will be at St. Mary Church, Welland, to speak about the program. Date of the event is Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall, 90 Griffith St. The event is hosted by Welland Knights of Columbus. Admission is free but donations are welcome.
FALL OPEN HOUSE AT COLLEGE CAMPUSES
WELLAND – Niagara College’s Fall Open House will take place on Saturday, November 19, from 10am to 2pm at both the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campuses.
Future students and their families and friends are welcome to explore a variety of academic displays and demonstrations, tour our program labs and classroom facilities, take a campus and residence tour, meet the faculty team and connect with current students. No advance registration is required. Parking is free at both campuses.
DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER NIGHT AT ST. KEVIN
WELLAND – Parish Community of St. Kevin hosts its 19th annual Distinguished Speaker Night on Monday, November 21.
Guest is Paul Beaudette, Program Leader for Religion and Family Life in the Hamilton-Wentworth District Catholic School Board. His topic: How the Church’s Best-Kept Secret is being divulged in Catholic schools. Speaker Night is held in the parish hall. It starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free and it is open to the community.
SOUP’S ON! MENU TO BE ECLECTIC
WELLAND – Planning for the 15th annual Soup’s On! fundraiser is underway. The event will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Kevin’s parish hall.
Participants include Canadian Food and Wine Institute, Blessed Trinity, Eastdale, Confederation, Lakeshore Catholic and Notre Dame soup prep teams and Stephanie the Lunch Lady. Ticket price remains unchanged: $10 per person.
The 2017 menu – yummy! – will be announced in the next week and tickets will go on sale the weekend of November 19-20, watch for more information.
LIBRARY OPEN SUNDAYS
WELLAND –The main branch of the library is now open every Sunday from 1– 5pm. Free parking available all day on weekends and evenings after 6 pm.
