PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON GO-QUIET BYLAW
WELLAND – Residents and businesses are invited to share their thoughts on potential changes to the City of Welland’s existing Go Quiet By-Law, which prohibits motorized craft on the Welland Recreational Waterway outside of special use exemptions for safety purposes.

Matthew Forsythe was the Lead Designer for the popular graphic novel and Cartoon Network’s, Adventure Time. He is also the award-winning illustrator for books including “My Name is Elizabeth,” “Ojingogo,” and a forthcoming book by Lemony Snicket! Come step into the world of art and adventure.

MUSEUM SEEKS NEW MEMBERS FOR BOARD
WELLAND –Welland Historical Museum invites submissions from leaders in our community for appointment to its Board of Management. The museum is looking for strong leaders with diverse backgrounds to reflect the demographics of our service area which includes both the City of Welland and the Town of Pelham. Being recruited are applicants with previous board and volunteer experience and would like to have representation from corporate, public sector and non-profit sectors. Particular skill sets include human resources, health and safety, finance, fundraising and marketing backgrounds. Youth representatives interested who have a passion for history, must be 18 years of age or older and residing or working in the City of Welland or the Town of Pelham. The term of appointment is three years with possible renewal for a second three-year term. The Board meets a minimum of 10 times per year on the 4th Wednesday of the month for approximately 2 hours. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

TAX CLINICS REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
WELLAND – Beginning in March, Welland Public Library will once again host Income Tax Clinics for people with low and fixed incomes. Clinics will be conducted by volunteers from the CRA Volunteer Tax Service and from the Niagara District Chartered Accountants Association; they will be held primarily at the Main Branch, with one clinic held at the Diamond Trail Branch. BBOARD APPROVES PROPOSED 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
WELLAND – Niagara Catholic trustees have approved Niagara Catholic’s proposed 2017-2018 School Year Calendar. It will now be sent to the Ministry of Education for final approval.
Highlights of the draft 2017-2018 School Year Calendar include:

Christmas Break: Monday, December 25, 2017 to Friday, January 8, 2018
March Break: March 12-16, 2018
Good Friday and Easter Monday: Friday, March 30 and Monday, April 2, 2018

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR ADAMS HUMANITARIAN AWARD
WELLAND – Nominations are now open for the 2017 T. Roy Adams Humanitarian of the Year Award. The award honours the memory of the late Councillor T. Roy Adams and is presented annually to a current resident of Niagara who best exemplifies Roy’s values and dedication to community service; a person who sees volunteerism as an integral part of their life.
Last year’s recipient was Welland resident Paul Turner.
Residents can view criteria for the award and submit nominations online at niagararegion.ca/government/awards-bursaries. Nominations are open until March 31, 2017. Roy Adams was an eminent Niagaran, well known throughout the Region, Canada, and abroad for his service to God, his country and his fellow citizens.
