TWO SEATS OPEN ON CITY COMMITTEES

WELLAND – The city is looking to fill volunteer positions on two committees. There is one resident-at-large position on the transit advisory committee, and one citizen opening for the senior citizens advisory committee.

Applications and info are available at the city clerk’s office or the city’s website. Applications must be received at the clerk’s office on or before 4:30 p.m., Monday, June 12.

DSBN WANTS AUDIT COMMITTEE VOLUNTEER

WELLAND – District School Board of Niagara is seeking a volunteer community member to serve on its audit committee.

Accounting, senior financial management or legal expertise are required. The term is for three years. For further details on candidate eligibility and how to apply, visit http://www.dsbn.org/auditcommittee.

TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE

DSC_5298 (3)WELLAND –  Taize Prayer for Pentecost  will be held at St. Kevin Church, Niagara St., on Tuesday, June 6, at 7:30pm. The prayer service is open to the community.

Taize prayer is held four times annually at the Welland parish: Advent, Lent, Pentecost and Thanksgiving.

VELVETONES HAVE SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT!

WELLAND –  The popular singing group, the Velvetones, hold their spring concert Sunday, June 4, 2pm at  Welland Community Wellness Complex. Come help celebrate Canada’s 150th in the Theatre at the Wellness Complex. Enjoy soloist, duets and ensembles. Door prizes and refreshments are included in the ticket price. Tickets: $6 Passholders, $8 Non-Passholders.

MULTICULTURAL CELEBRATION

WELLAND – A multicultural festival is being held Sunday, June 4 from noon to 3:30pm at the Welland Market Square. Bring your lawn chairs, family and friends. More details on Welland Heritage Council and Multicultural Centre’s website.

MARKET BACK AT THE MALL

WELLAND  – Farmers’ Market in the Seaway Mall front parking lot resumes Monday, June 5. Held every Monday afternoon from 2pm to 7pm, it features farmers, crafters and food trucks – all local vendors.

DON’T MISS JAMMIN’ AT THE MARKET

WELLAND – The 2017 music series Jammin’ at the downtown market is set to make its debut this month. The popular program begins Saturday, June 17 featuring B4 Midnight.

Other performances include: Heather Glabb, June 24; Flatwater Shadows, July 15; Joe Crawford Karaoke, July 29; David and Joni, August 12; Niagara Region Old Tyme Fiddlers, August 26; Jessica Wilson, September 2 and Tracks, September 9. Great entertainment while you shop at our local farmers market.

COLLEGE CONVOCATION AT WELLAND CAMPUS

Convocation-BannerWELLAND – Niagara College’s Spring 2017 Convocation Ceremony will take place between June 20 – 23, at the Welland Campus with a reception immediately following the ceremony.

YUMMY! STRAWBERRY SOCIAL

WELLAND – A strawberry social luncheon is being held Friday, June 9 from 11am to 12:30pm at the Welland Community Wellness Complex. Tickets are $11 for passholders and $12 for non-passholders.

CANOE RENTAL PROGRAM BACK IN BUSINESS

WELLAND –  Welland’s popular canoe rental program has started up for the season at the PenFinancial Credit Union Flatwater Centre.

Canoes, solo kayaks, tandem kayaks, standup paddle boards and pedal boats are available for rent at the site. The centre is open 10am to 6pm on weekends in June and September. During July and August the centre is open weekdays as well, from 11am to 6pm. More info, including fees and age policy, is available on the city’s website.

TD SUMMER READING CLUB TO START

WELLAND –   It’s BIG – and it’s coming to a library branch near you! Kids of all ages: get ready for great books, lively programs, cool prizes, and loads of fun this July and August!

Celebrate CANADA this summer and join the free TD Summer Reading Club. The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. Register at the Welland Public Library starting Monday, June 26. Joining the club means getting a chance to win fun prizes every week throughout the summer!

WELLAND –  Summer is approaching. The Welland Public Library is preparing to offer an amazing variety of programs all summer at its 3 branches. You won’t want to miss out on all of the special Canadian-themed activities to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

Program Guides are available at the Main Branch, Diamond Trail Branch, and online.

Monday, June 12: Registration opens for July programs. Monday, June 26: Registration opens for TD Summer Reading Club. Monday, July 10: Registration opens for August programs. All programs require registration unless otherwise noted.
