ROSE, FLOWER SHOW JUNE 21
WELLAND – Welland Horticultural Society’s 2017 Rose and Flower Show will be held on Wednesday, June 21. Theme of the show is Canada 150th.
The society meets at Wesley United Church, 244 First Avenue North. The rose and flower show will be in conjunction with the June meeting .Guest speaker will be Lester Fretz, whose topic will be Backyard Greenhouses.

TWO SEATS OPEN ON CITY COMMITTEES
WELLAND – The city is looking to fill volunteer positions on two committees. There is one resident-at-large position on the transit advisory committee, and one citizen opening for the senior citizens advisory committee.
Applications and info are available at the city clerk’s office or the city’s website. Applications must be received at the clerk’s office on or before 4:30 p.m., Monday, June 12.

WELLAND – District School Board of Niagara is seeking a volunteer community member to serve on its audit committee.

POOL OPENING DATE SET BACK
WELLAND – Due to inclement weather, opening day for Welland pools has been delayed to Saturday, June 24. Hours are: weekdays, 6 to 8pm and weekends noon to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. Regular summer hours will begin June 30.

RACE IS ALL IT’S QUACKED UP TO BE
WELLAND – Welland Rotary’s Duck Race is being held Sunday, June 25 at the Welland Rose Festival Parade. Duck race starts at 12 pm sharp at the Division Street Bridge. Race starts at the Division Street and ends at the Main Street Bridge. Tickets can be purchased through Welland Rotarians, on the day of the race at the Rotary Tent (near the Division Street Bridge – just look for the BIG DUCK) or at any Welland Rose Festival Events.
CANOE RENTAL PROGRAM BACK IN BUSINESS
WELLAND – Welland’s popular canoe rental program has started up for the season at the PenFinancial Credit Union Flatwater Centre.
Canoes, solo kayaks, tandem kayaks, standup paddle boards and pedal boats are available for rent at the site. The centre is open 10am to 6pm on weekends in June and September. During July and August the centre is open weekdays as well, from 11am to 6pm. More info, including fees and age policy, is available on the city’s website.
