WELLAND – Notre Dame’s senior boys basketball team will be starting off the new year in south Florida.
The Irish will take part in the All-Catholic New Year’s Holiday Tournament, Jan. 2-7, 2018, hosted by Belen Prep in West Miami, a private, Jesuit school.
Irish coach Mark Gallagher said the tourney will have eight teams: six from south Florida, one from the Big Apple, New York City, and the Irish.
Gallagher said his charges will spend a morning at the WOW Centre Miami, a centre for disabled adults. The team will conduct a basketball clinic for the centre’s clients.
“We were looking for a tournament in Florida and this one was recommended to us from the Junior Orange Bowl association, they didn’t have any room in their Christmas tournament,” Gallagher wrote in an email for the blog.
The team will be holding an elimination draw fundraiser on October 20 at Club Castropignano in Port Robinson. More information is forthcoming.
