MUSICAL WEEKEND AT THE AMPHITHEATRE

WELLAND – Enjoy the free concert on the floating stage at Merritt Park this weekend. Tonight (Friday, July 7) the Summer Music Festival is back with Rock Fusion – Mark Lalama Trio with special guest Daniel Romano, guest artist Jessica Wilson and also appearing  Rita Carrey. The concert begins at 7pm. Tomorrow, Saturday, a children’s concert takes the stage at 1:30 pm, Sonshine and Broccoli.

SOCIAL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED AT GRAD CEREMONIES

DSC_2059 (2)WELLAND  – Four students from three local secondary schools are recipients of the 2017 St. Kevin Food Bank Social Justice Scholarship. They are: Aaron Parry (Blessed Trinity Secondary School, Grimsby); Laura Ferreira (Lakeshore Catholic High School, Port Colborne); and Emma Mete and Ailene Zamora (Notre Dame College School, Welland). Each scholarship is in the amount of $1,000. The main fundraiser for the award is Soup’s On!, the popular soup luncheon held annually at St. Kevin parish hall the last Friday of January.

CANADA 150 LIVING FLAG

WELLAND – The Port Robinson Living Flag event is scheduled for Sunday, July 9. A Canada 150 celebration, it is being held at Club Castropignano, 1311 Egerter Rd., Thorold. WELLAND  –  Meet Mayor Frank Campion at the Merritt Island parking lot Monday mornings at 7:30am for a 40 Minute Walk on Merritt Island. The next is Monday, July 10.

CROATIAN  TOURING GROUP IN CONCERT

WELLAND  – Croatian Fraternal Union (CFU) Lodge 617 Hrvatski Sinovi, Welland  is hosting the Croatian Tour 2017 group  TS SARMERI & VLATKA KOPIC-PERKOVIC “TENA”  Saturday, August 19, in the Croatian National Home clubroom.  Tickets $40 for dinner and concert, dinner 5pm, concert 7:30pm.  For tickets call Ann Simunic 905-734-9851.

REGISTRATION FOR AUGUST PROGRAMS OPENS JULY 10

WELLAND – Summer is here! The Welland Public Library is offering exciting programs for all ages at all three branches this summer. Registration is still open for July programs. CANOE RENTAL PROGRAM OPEN WEEKDAYS

city logoWELLAND –  Welland’s popular canoe rental program has started up for the season at the PenFinancial Credit Union Flatwater Centre. Canoes, solo kayaks, tandem kayaks, standup paddle boards and pedal boats are available for rent at the site. The centre is open 10am to 6pm on weekends June to September. During July and August the centre is open weekdays from 11am to 6pm. Cancellations due to weather will be posted on the Welland Canoe Rental Program Facebook page

DON’T MISS JAMMIN’ AT THE MARKET

WELLAND – The 2017 music series Jammin’ at the downtown market is now in full swing. Featured performers are: Flatwater Shadows, July 15; Joe Crawford Karaoke, July 29; David and Joni, August 12; Niagara Region Old Tyme Fiddlers, August 26; Jessica Wilson, September 2 and Tracks, September 9. Great entertainment while you shop at our local farmers market. Performances are 9:30am to 10:30am.
