Do you know a Niagara-based charitable organization that needs a small upgrade to your facility or programming? Applications are now open for Niagara College’s next Many Hands Project.
Managed by the College’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Sport, as well as faculty and students from the Event Management (Graduate Certificate) program, the annual Many Hands Project has been making its mark on the Niagara region by providing enhancements to local non-profit organizations. Proposals will be evaluated and selected by students in the Event Management program.
The College will celebrate its 22nd annual Many Hands Project with a focus on supporting several smaller scale projects that involve a one- or two-day facility rejuvenation or programming improvements. Projects will fall within an approximate budget of $5,000 – for example, a new coat of paint, new flooring, a new look to an outdoor space, and/or initiatives that aim to improve programming, similar to the Many Hands Project’s 2017/2018 contribution to recipients at Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold, and Niagara College’s Student Administrative Council’s Nourishing Minds Program.
“We take pride in the fact that we can build on the legacy of the Many Hands Project through assisting the local non-profits that contribute so positively to our communities,” said Christine Blane, Event Management professor and coordinator. “Our students learn valuable hands-on skills and gain real-world experience that they need to succeed in the industry. There are many non-profits in Niagara that could use additional levels of support and the Many Hands Project has positioned itself to reach out.”
Event Management students will plan, manage and host a variety of projects to be selected during the 2018-2019 academic year, The enhancements to local non-profit organizations will be completed by a team of volunteers from the recipient organization, the community, and the College (when possible).
Applicants must be a non-profit agency in Niagara that serves the community. Those interested in becoming the recipient of the next Many Hands Project may access an application at http://www.niagaracollege.ca/manyhands
Applications must be submitted for consideration by August 23, 2018. The selected recipient organization is expected to be announced this fall.
