Here’s Your Chance To Submit A Nominee

Partial list of Cudney award recipients.

WELLAND –  Nominations are now being sought for the H. L. Cudney Memorial Award.

First presented in 1962, the award recognizes outstanding achievement in or contribution to sports in Welland. The 2018 recipient was Michele O’Keefe, Niagara College’s associate director, Athletics and Recreation, who was honored for contributions to basketball in Canada, specificially for elevating the sport on a national level.

The award presentation is coordinated by the Cudney Award Committee, a sub-committee of the Welland Sports Promotion Committee. Nomination forms are available at: Welland Community Wellness Complex, 145 Lincoln St. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, January 24, 2020.

“The committee hopes the community will respond to the request for nominations,” said Ron Lemon, its chair. “There certainly are many deserving candidates in the Welland community. The challenge is to get their names brought forward to our attention.”

Members of the award committee are: Wayne Jaroslawski, Wayne Harris, Irene Gibbins, Don Larman, Ron Harpwood, Todd Cooney, Murray Mulligan, Joe Barkovich and Lemon.

The Cudney award will be presented during the city’s 48th annual Sports Award Night, Friday, April 3, 2020 at Casa Dante, Lincoln Street, Welland.
