‘Support Our Farmers’: Mayor Campion

WELLAND – Mayor Frank Campion is encouraging residents to “support their local farmers” by shopping at the Welland market. The invite is part of a personal message by the mayor, posted on the City of Welland Bulletin.

Campion’s message reads:

“The historic Welland Farmers’ Market has been viewed as the pillar of the Welland community where local farmers have been providing quality products to local residents and tourists since 1907.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic strict protocols were put forth by the Provincial Government and Public Health which unfortunately resulted in the closure of the historic farmers’ market for a few months. The farmers’ market resumed operations with a small group of vendors on July 11. On August 29, the farmers’ market expanded to include both buildings along with outside vendors.

With the harvest season upon us, I encourage Welland residents and visitors to support their local farmers. Visit our website www.welland.ca for the current list of market vendors which will be expanding through the coming weeks. Stop by and take advantage of all the Welland Farmers’ Market has to offer.

Thank you to the vendors and the community for their patience as we move through this pandemic together. Strict protocols mandated by Public Health remain in place in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and to keep everyone safe.

I remind everyone that it is up to you to follow the rules of social distancing, hand washing and wearing a mask or face covering when required, staying home if displaying symptoms or having been in close contact with cases of COVID-19. A two-metre distance must be maintained at all gatherings – indoor gatherings of 50 people and 100 people for outdoor gatherings. Stay safe. Stay healthy. ”

The market is open Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon.
